Description:

Job Purpose

The Fleet Coordinator will manage the entire fleet for the group. Fleet Manager will responsible for ensuring that transport is available to meet the scheduled delivery and scheduling to be in accordance to supply chain rules. In order to meet the current and future needs of the customer, the Fleet Manager will continuously identify scope and implement improvements to delivery of product to the customer at the most efficient mode of transport and at optimum cost.

Summary of Key Responsibilities;

  • Responsible for selecting and maintaining Trucks in order to keep deliveries and distributions on schedule and within their established budget
  • Ensure appropriate route planning is applied making delivery rounds
    as efficient as possible whilst considering the requirements of the
    customer.
  • Ensure legal compliance is adhered to with regard to transport and driver regulations. E.g. licence checks & load weight
  • Planning routes and load scheduling for multi-drop deliveries.
  • Organise, lead, and participate in Regional Logistics Meetings including the local transport committee.
  • Manage logistics operations including all logistics assets in order to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of organization cargoes.
  • Ensure vehicle accident reporting and investigation process is adhered to and appropriate actions are taken.
  • Ensure all transporter vehicles are serviced according to Transport and Logistics advisory standards.
  • Identify, mobilize resources, implement, and report on special logistics operations.
  • Ensure that accurate and complete accounting, reporting, and internal control systems are functioning and that all relevant records are maintained.
  • Allocating and recording resources and movements on the transport planning system.
  • Booking sub-contractors and ensuring they deliver within agreed terms.
  • Record shipment data such as weight, charges, and damages
  • Be
    part of the negotiation on behalf of the company in liaison with the
    procurement department for raw materials and transport of finished
    products from the company
  • Manage the relationship with key transport suppliers – road and rail
  • Rectify problems such as damages, shortages, and non-conformance to specifications
  • Document and escalate any customer service issues and/or shipping/receiving errors
  • Management of GPS trackers to monitor where the Trucks are and drivers' habits.
  • Monitor operations to ensure that staff members comply with administrative policies and procedures, safety rules, union contracts, and government regulations.
  • Promote safe work activities by conducting safety audits, attending company safety meetings, and meeting with individual staff members.
  • Making ensure that the trucks are not overloaded and they are in road-worthy condition
  • Ensuring that authorized vehicles will be kept at the authorized operating centers or resting Sites when not in use.
  • Ensure effective commodity management and quality control.
  • Ensure adequate logistics preparedness through contingency planning and continuous logistics preparedness reviews.
  • Take the lead in managing relations with local and regional transportation companies
  • Coordinate logistics operations with other organizations in the area.
  • Manage the organization's field fleet security arrangements and coordinate any evacuations.

Primary Areas of Accountability:

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree in Transport and Logistics or Engineering
  • Must have at least a minimum of 6 +years of working experience in Transport and Logistics at a Middle or Senior Level
  • Strong technical understanding, especially of the wheels aspects of the industry-trucking and rail haulage.
  • Strong conflict resolution skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of the transportation industry
  • Evidence of good interpersonal and persuasive skills
  • Must have managed a large fleet of Heavy duty trucks (150 -300)
  • Proven experience in the use GPS trackers
  • Experience of working in a multinational corporate environment is an added advantage
  • Must be an active member of ZCILT
