Job Purpose
The Junior Pharmacist will prepare medication by reviewing and interpreting physicians’ orders, detecting incompatibilities. Communicate with local physicians to determine the type of medication and dosage for a customer, take inventory of pharmaceutical drugs to reorder them based on local demand and interact with pharmacy customers to give them their prescriptions and answer medication questions.

Summary of Key Responsibilities;

• Preparing medication by reviewing and interpreting physicians’ orders, detecting incompatibilities
• Dispense medication by compounding, packaging and labelling pharmaceuticals
• Handle direct customers and patients and provide professional counselling and advice on health issues, symptoms, and medications.
• Monitoring customers’ drug therapies, advising interventions, and informing customers of any potential side effects.
• Ensure dispensing of pharmaceuticals, identification and correction of potential allergic reactions and drug interactions/incompatibilities.
• Check expiry dates, short-dated and overstocked pharmaceuticals and reports them directly to the Pharmacy Supervisor.
• Receiving and filling prescriptions
• Communicating with medical professionals about patients and their medications
• Listening to patients’ reports of symptoms and providing suggestions for over-the-counter medications
• Accurately measuring, preparing and distributing proper medications to the patients that need them
• Instructing customers on how and when to take prescribed medications.
• Conducting health and wellness screenings.
• Providing immunizations, and other medical services, such as taking blood pressure, temperature measurements, and checking blood sugar levels.
• Ensuring a safe and clean working environment in and outside the pharmacy
• Completing operational requirements of the pharmacy, including verifying order entries, maintaining records of controlled substances, charges, and removing expired and/or damaged drugs from the pharmacy’s inventory.
• Adhering to applicable legal rules, regulations, and procedures governing pharmaceutical practice.
• Upon request provide medication information to medical/nursing personnel.
• Actively participates in the promotion and implementation of patient and family rights.
  

Required Skills and Competencies:

• Exhibits knowledge in drug absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion and interaction.
• Knowledge in chemistry, pharmacology, pharmaceuticals, therapeutics, patient care technique, biopharmaceutics, microbiology, quality assurance and medication administration techniques.
• Demonstrates ability in communication, instruction and interacting with other health professionals.
• Should have excellent communication skills and an ability to manage people.
