Job Purpose 
The Seed Production/Processing Manager will be responsible for efficiently managing the complete seed production process as well as administrating required seed paperwork. As the top member of on-site management, this position is responsible for the oversight of plant operations, regulatory compliance, safe operation, production efficiency, cost-effectiveness, budget management, production scheduling, and control of assets.

Summary of Key Responsibilities;

  • Direct and manage plant operations for production, maintenance, quality and shipping and receiving.
  • Oversee crew activities which include: sewing bags, stacking bags, loading out trucks, driving forklifts, conditioning of seed, sampling seed, maintenance of milling and warehouse equipment.
  • Establish and monitor overall plant performance for production and quality standards.
  • Ensures product quality meets established quality standards.
  • Works toward continuous improvement in seed recovery and productivity
  • Manages and maintains existing plant facilities and equipment in appropriate working conditions to meet business needs.
  • Implements and maintains preventative maintenance programs.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with safety rules and regulations
  • Efficiently coordinates and directs plant and warehouse operations and production lines
  • Ensures all product is properly cleaned, tagged and bagged before shipment
  • Improve seed processing efficiencies by developing sustainable systems that will deliver increased through-puts while meeting established quality standards.
  • Ensure critical projects are identified, prioritized, designed and executed properly with a focus on continuous improvement of seed yield, quality and efficiency.
  • Handle multiple crops, Grain seed, vegetable seeds- tomato, chilli, okra and field crops like coriander, corn, paddy etc.
  • Coordinate closely with Quality control and Supply chain.
  • Direct and oversee plant operations to ensure safe work practices and improve safety performance.
  • Manage scheduling activities to ensure timely supply of material to the business.
  • Deal with logistic activities to ensure that procedures are followed for efficiency.
  • Keep abreast of the manufacturing technology trends, investigate and install the most effective methods of manufacturing to keep the company at a competitive edge at all times.
  • Make regular daily inspection tours of plant facility to assure safety & security program effectiveness.
  • Grading and sampling of all commodities
  • Responsible for acquiring and maintaining crop certificates and germination and government records
  • Generating, printing, and tracking seed tags
  • Maintain records of, but not limited to; inventory, daily bagging, processing, maintenance requests, facility housekeeping, moistures, dockages, grades, and work orders
  • Participate in management meetings and liaise with all departments to develop and excel at goals

Primary Areas of Accountability:

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree in Seed Technology or Agriculture
  • A Masters in any of the above fields will be an added advantage
  • A Professional Qualification in Plant Operator and Seed Grader license will be a plus
  • Must have a minimum of 10-12 years of experience in a Grain/Seed Processing Plant
  • Proven experience in Plant/General Management in a seed conditioning environment.
  • Excellent knowledge of seed coating and seed treatment.
  • Good knowledge of processing protocols, accuracy of data collected, and alignment with supply chain objectives.
  • Broad knowledge of safety and environmental systems and procedures.
  • Ability to create and implement protocols and processing standards/methodologies
  • Proven supervisory experience.
