Description:

Job Purpose
The Workshop Manager will manage and lead a team of Technicians in allocating workload and managing the day to day operations in the workshop. Supervise daily activities of vehicle repair, coordinate the staff, the other jobs, resources and liaise with internal and external key contacts to ensure work is delivered on time and expected standard. Contribute to the provision of a quality service resulting in the profitability of the company and embracing the spirit of continuous improvement.

Summary of Key Responsibilities;

  • Plan and Prepare a detailed maintenance program for the entire Fleet
  • Ensure all vehicles and any other equipment full serviced and maintained in a safe, efficient and professional manner.
  • Work closely with the Supply Chain team in the identification of reputable Service Spare Parts for different vehicles.
  • Ensure all workshop and yard operations are undertaken in a safe, efficient, cost effective and professional manner.
  • Take full charge of the whole workshop operations including Mechanical, Panel Beating and Paint departments
  • Take charge of developing, updating and verifying jobs cards
  • Plan and develop daily work schedules for subordinates 
    Devise procedures of works / checklists to prevent re-occurrence of complaints
  • Ensure that all jobs are completed on date and time schedule
  • Approve all quality Checks prior to Truck/Bus movement for use.
  • Take charge of safety by making sure that all equipment and tool are in good working condition and work staff are putting on the required and appropriate attire
  • Ensure adherence to quality standards and health and safety regulations including use of protective equipment
  • With close collaboration with the HR Department take charge of workshop staff performance management and provide the need guidance and training on employees performing below average.

Primary Areas of Accountability:

Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma in Heavy Duty Mechanics or Related Engineering or Mechanics Qualification
  • Degree in any of the above fields will be a plus
  • A qualification in Logistics and Transport Management will be an added advantage
  • 5 - 7 years’ practical work experience of which 3 years must have been managing a workshop as a Manager or Supervisor with reputable a Transportation Company
  • Proven experience of Managing a large fleet of trucks and buses will be an added advantage
  • Must have Proven technical and mechanical skills
  • Knowledge in auto electrical will be an added advantage
  • Should have knowledge on workshop process and practices
  • Proven experience of supervising mechanics, Welders, Panel beaters and auto electricians.
  • Ability to operate all tools and equipment involved in vehicle repairs and resolve vehicle breakdowns would be a plus.
  • Must be a member of a relevant professional body (i.e CILT or EIZ)
