Job Purpose
The Transport Manager will manage the entire fleet for the company. Lead and manage Road Transport elements of Health Safety Security Environment (HSSE) standards. Provide Assurance of Business compliance with regulatory and company requirements associated with Road Transport.
Summary of Key Responsibilities;
  • Responsible for selecting and maintaining vehicles in order to keep deliveries and distributions on schedule and within its established budget
  • Planning routes and load scheduling for multi-drop deliveries.
  • Implement Road transport strategy and ensure compliance of HSSE performance targets and drive HSSE continuous improvement towards Goal Zero
  • Organise, lead and participate in Regional Logistics Meetings including the local transport committee.
  • Manage logistics operations including all logistics assets in order to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of organisation cargoes.
  • Ensure audit program is conducted for all transport operations and accompany/maintain all contractors towards a professional level
  • Set and meet transport operating Budget.
  • Monitor and report monthly Transport performances
  • Identify, mobilise resources, implement and report on special logistics operations.
  • Ensure that accurate and complete accounting, reporting and internal control systems are functioning and that all relevant records are maintained.
  • Build Drivers Competence via coaching and formal training.
  • Record shipment data such as weight, charges and damages
  • Contact carrier representative to make arrangements and to issue shipping instructions and delivery of materials
  • Rectify problems such as damages, shortages and non-conformance to specifications
  • Document and escalate any customer service issues and/or shipping/receiving errors
  • Management of GPS trackers to monitor where the vehicles are and drivers' habits.
Required Knowledge & Skills
  • Strong technical understanding-trucking and rail haulage.
  • An analytic mind and good numeracy skills.
  • Excellent geographical knowledge.
  • Good people management and coordination skills.
  • Leadership skills required to influence all partners

  • Strong analytical capability

Primary Areas of Accountability:
Qualifications and Experience
  • Degree in Engineering  or Transport & Logistics/Distribution
  • With at least a minimum of  7 - 10 years’ experience in the transportation industry experience
  • Extensive transportation industry and HSSE experience
  • Proven experience in vehicle registration and road license
  • Must be well networked with Road Regulatory Bodies (Rtsa)
  • Must have a managed a large fleet of Heavy duty trucks (50 - 150)
  • Should be able to Administer fleet monitoring systems (GPS trackers)
  • Must have a good geographical knowledge of Zambia and Southern Africa in general
  • Must be a member of a relevant body in the profession
