About Bangweulu Wetlands (BW)
Bangweulu Wetlands are mostly situated in the Muchinga’s Lavushi Manda, Luapula’s Lunga   and Central’s Chitambo districts of Zambia. This is comprised of residents of six separate Chiefdoms spread throughout the area making Bangweulu Wetlands a unique conservation area- Community partnership Park.
The area is managed by Bangweulu Wetlands Management Board(BWMB)  , through a  public private partnership comprising of the African parks(APN) , the  communities represented by the  Community Resources Board( CRBs) and the Chiefs, the Department of National Parks and Wildlife ( DPNW) .

The responsibilities of the BWMB include management of the park  with the following activities - conservation , infrastructure development to support conservation activities, ecological monitoring, law enforcement, community development and revenue generation.

Job Purpose 
The Tourist Officer (TO) will be a key member of the Bangweulu Wetlands Management Team, and will be responsible for all aspects of tourism management for Nsobe campsites, Nkondo tented camp and Shoebill Island Camp.

Summary of Main Responsibilities:
  • Be responsible for weekly updates to the Bangweulu Wetlands Facebook page
  • Assist with providing information for magazine articles.
  • Access certain aspects on the African Parks website Bangweulu page in order to change/update and add information.
  • Act as Commercial Development Manager when the CDM requests
  • Make Bookings and reservations monitor, liaise with camp staff on bookings and meet & meet clients
  • Oversee;
-      All aspects of food stocks, ordering and balancing;
-      Menu setting, table presentations and staff training
-      Housekeeping and tent inspections
-      Any other camp, client and staff related issues
 
  • Manage the Geographic Information System software.
  • Manage the SMART software.
  • Manage the Inflow software to keep track of stocks and related costs.
 
Required Competencies and Skills
  • Demonstrable ability to mentor tourist staff at all levels
  • Demonstrable leadership and people management skills
  • Strong willingness to live in a rural setting
  • Fluent English (written and spoken)
  • Good report writing skills
  • Good team player



Primary Areas of Accountability:
  • A Degree in   Marketing / Tourism Management  or;
  • A professional qualification in Tourism and Marketing Management 
  • Must have a minimum of 3 -5 years progressive experience in Tourism Marketing
  • Should have experience living in remote locations, ideally in Africa.
  • Must be well networked with institutions in Africa that oversee/promote Tourism
  • Should be willing to travel frequently
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must be a member of a relevant professional body i.e ZIM or CIM
