Job Purpose
Maintain, repair, and overhaul farm machinery and vehicles, such as tractors, harvesters, and farm implements. Reassemble machines and equipment following repair; test operation; and make adjustments as necessary.
Key Responsibilities;
  • Record details of repairs made and parts used.
  • Examine and listen to equipment, and confer with operator to locate and diagnose malfunctions.
  • Dismantle defective machines for repair, using hand tools.
  • Test and replace electrical components and wiring, using test meters, soldering equipment, and hand tools.
  • Clean machinery and lubricate parts before handing machinery over.
  • Drive vehicle to haul tools and equipment for in field repair of machinery both day and night.
  • Be very strong with identifying the abuse and improper use of machinery, help to rectify and report to management.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment both in the workshop and out in the field.

Primary Areas of Accountability:
Qualifications and Experience
  • Advanced Certificate / Diploma in Mechanics or related qualification
  • Minimum 5 years Agricultural Technician Experience.
  • Must have worked as Mechanic at a Farm or agricultural service company
  • Mechanical Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of Machinery systems such as basic  Electronics, hydraulics and Engine components
  • Basic computer skills to search and identify parts on online machinery catalogues for procurement.
  • Repairing - machines or systems using the needed tools.
  • Equipment Maintenance - Performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
  • Troubleshooting - Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.
  • Quality Control Analysis - Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.
