Job Purpose
The Senior Accountant - General Ledger & Stock, will be responsible for maintaining general ledger entries and reconciling financial statements. Be responsible for ensuring that ledger data is accurate and precise. Manage and reconcile all inventory-related financial transactions, ensuring accurate reporting of stock levels, movements, and valuation in compliance with internal controls and accounting standards. The Stock Accountant plays a critical role in inventory integrity, loss prevention, and financial reporting.
Summary of Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze general ledger accounts monthly and recommend appropriate action on old open items.
- Perform monthly and annual closing procedures, including journal entries, reconciliations, and accruals
- Manage the transitory and intercompany general ledger accounts to ensure transactions are complete and closed within the same period
- Support Monthly and Annual Close Processes
- Monitor and process fixed-asset additions and capitalization, retirement and disposal, adjustments, revaluations, transfers and maintenance expenses
- Prepare and submit clearing schedules to SSC monthly for various accounts.
- Post stock differences to align stock balances in SAP at the end of every month, after month-end stock reconciliation, by the Stock Controller.
- Assist various departments in accounting issues and queries
- Analyse and perform foreign currency exchanges
- Support Auditor in conducting internal and external audits
- Maintain accurate records of all stock transactions including receipts, transfers, issues, and adjustments.
- Reconcile physical inventory against system balances and investigate variances.
- Ensure that stock movements are correctly and promptly recorded in the SAP/accounting system.
- Assist in tax preparation and filing activities
- Support workflow users and circulate the workflow report weekly.
- Review the cockpit to ensure transactions are integrated with Smart Invoice and contact support to assist with errors.
- Support and coordinate periodic and ad hoc stock counts (cycle counts and full physical inventory)
- Monitor stock controls at warehouses, depots, or outlets to prevent pilferage, loss, and mismanagement.
- Work closely with operations and warehouse teams to enforce inventory best practices.
- Ensure adherence to company policies, internal controls, and relevant tax or audit requirements.
- Assist with internal and external audits relating to inventory.
- Support other finance functions as needed.

Primary Areas of Accountability:
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of Bachelors degree in Accounting/Finance or Full CA Zambia, ACCA or CIMA or equivalent.
- Must have a minimum of 6 years of work experience in accounting/finance, of which 3 years must be in stock/inventory and general ledger management
- Must have an audit background or currently working for an audit firm
- Must be conversant with Spread sheets and SAP Accounting packages
- Must have good analytical, Excel and interpersonal communication skills to deal with issues of accounting, taxes and ZRA.
- Must be a member of ZICA
