Reports To: Country Manager and Director

Job Purpose

The CFO will provide strategic financial leadership and oversight to the agribusiness operations, ensuring financial sustainability, regulatory compliance, and long-term growth. The CFO will lead the finance function, optimize resource allocation, manage risk, and support investment and expansion strategies across the agricultural value chain.

Summary of Key Responsibilities:

Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with business goals.

  • Advise the CEO and Board on financial planning, capital structure, and risk management.
  • Drive and secure funding to support the company’s operations, investments, and growth initiatives. As one of the most critical aspects of the role, ensuring access to sustainable financing is essential to the company’s long-term success.
  • Drive financial planning, forecasting, and budgeting processes.
  • Evaluate investment opportunities, partnerships, and capital expenditures to support business growth.
  • Oversee day-to-day finance and accounting operations, including cash flow management, inventory costing, and financial controls.
  • Ensure compliance with national and international accounting standards, tax laws, and industry regulations.
  • Coordinate annual audits and liaise with auditors, banks, and other financial institutions.
  • Maintain accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Monitor input cost fluctuations (commodities, feed ingredients) and recommend pricing or sourcing adjustments.
  • Manage financial risks, including credit, currency, and operational risks in the agri-trade environment.
  • Implement internal controls to prevent fraud and financial mismanagement.
  • Build capacity in financial management across departments.
  • Support cross-functional departments (procurement, sales, production) with financial insights.
  • Present financial reports and insights to the Board, investors, and lenders.
  • Support fundraising efforts and manage investor/lender relations.
  • Represent the company in financial and investment forums.

Primary Areas of Accountability:

Qualifications and Experience

  • Full Professional Accounting Qualification (CA Zambia, ACCA or CIMA)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field
  • Master’s degree or MBA in Finance will be an added advantage
  • Must have a minimum of 8–10 years of progressive financial leadership experience, preferably in agribusiness or a related sector
  • Must have proven experience in raising capital for companies, with demonstrated success in securing funding of at least USD 10 million from financial institutions or banks
  • Strong knowledge of financial regulations, investment structuring, and risk management
  • Experience working with commercial banks, international financial institutions, investors, and donors
  • Must be a member of ZICA
