Job Purpose
The General Manager will lead and drive the overall growth, profitability, and sustainability of the Insurance business and company in general. Take charge of defining the company’s strategic direction, ensuring operational efficiency, maintaining regulatory compliance, and strengthening relationships with stakeholders.
Summary of Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute the company’s long-term strategic plan, ensuring alignment with market trends and shareholder expectations
- Identify growth opportunities, including new product lines, market expansion, and partnerships.
- Ensure profitability, sustainability, and financial stability through sound fiscal management
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and cost optimization to maximize shareholder value
- Regularly analyze key financial reports and KPIs to inform strategic decision-making.
- Ensure full compliance with the Insurance Act No. 38 of 2021, PIA regulations, and other relevant laws.
- Implement strong corporate governance practices, ensuring transparency, accountability, and ethical leadership.
- Maintain close collaboration with regulatory authorities and ensure adherence to all industry standards.
- Establish a comprehensive risk management framework, addressing financial, operational, regulatory, and cyber risks.
- Ensure business continuity planning, crisis management protocols, and effective claims handling.
- Monitor and mitigate market risks, fraud, and emerging insurance risks.
- Build and maintain relationships with brokers, reinsurers, clients, and investors.
- Represent the company in industry associations, government forums, and key public engagements.
- Drive brand positioning and corporate social responsibility initiatives.
- Lead the company’s digital transformation strategy, including InsurTech adoption, AI-driven risk assessment, and customer experience enhancements.
- Foster a culture of innovation, ensuring the company remains competitive in the evolving insurance landscape.
- Build a high-performance leadership team, ensuring succession planning and talent retention.
- Drive leadership training, staff development, and performance evaluations.

Primary Areas of Accountability:
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Insurance, Economics, or A Related Field
- An MBA in any of the above fields or relevant postgraduate qualification is preferred
- Must have a minimum of 10+ years of experience in the insurance industry, with a proven track record in senior management (i.e., COO, CFO, or Managing Director).
- Experience in General Insurance Sales and Marketing will be a plus
- Proven understanding of the Zambian insurance industry
- Strong leadership and team development skills, with expertise in organizational strategy and management.
- Proficient in financial analysis, budgeting, and performance management.
- In-depth knowledge of insurance industry practices, including underwriting, claims, risk assessment, and compliance.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of presenting complex issues clearly to diverse audiences.
- Ability to adapt to changing market conditions and industry trends.
- Must be a current member of the Insurance Institute of Zambia (IIZ).
- Must hold the ACII qualification or an equivalent insurance certification.
