Job Purpose

The Stores and Distribution Manager will responsible for managing all aspects of shipping routes and delivery, specifically with regard to customer satisfaction. Support and facilitate the timely delivery of quality finished goods to customers, the efficient and safe storage of the Company’s finished goods inventory, and the effective management of inventory using a bar coding system.

Summary of Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage orders and arrange stocking of materials and equipment to ensure they meet needs
  • Prepare and submit reports on all aspects of the warehousing and dispatching operations to the Sales and Marketing Manager.
  • Work closely with the Materials Officer regarding the availability and quality of packaging materials, as well as with the Production Planner regarding Production deliveries.
  • Take the lead in the planning and scheduling of products for delivery, keeping track of their quantity, quality, costs and delivery dates.
  • Manage scheduling, coordination and tracking of dispatchers shifts for the week
  • Ensuring dispatchers are completing their daily task of efficient response time, best practical job order assignments, tracking couriers, following up, and consistent communication.
  • Negotiate with Independent Contractors servicing our client’s customers.
  • Work diligently with Leadership, Operations Management, Sales, and other third-party organizations to oversee delivery operations and ensure SLAs are achieved.
  • Assist in all aspects of logistics operations as needed including driver communication/training, order dispatching/monitoring and serving as last line of defense for physical pick-up/delivery of customer shipments.
  • Develop and maintain a consultative communication system with sales personnel and subordinate team members for the purpose of reviewing operating policies, plans, human and equipment performance-related problems and initiating creative solutions to address/correct deficiencies.
  • Plan and track shipment of final products according to customer requirement
  • Communicate with suppliers, retailers and customers to achieve profitable deals and mutual satisfaction
  • Maintain logs and records of warehouse stock and executed orders
  • Recruit and coordinate logistics staff (e.g. truck driver's) according to availabilities and requirements
  • Manage inventory as well as warehouse, transportation, and other logistics processes
  • Develop new strategies to streamline processes and reduce cost
  • Ensure that quality, quantity, customer satisfaction, and financial commitments are met
  • Perform metrics reporting and data analysis tasks to identify issues and opportunities for process improvements
  • Partner and communicate with regional manufacturers, suppliers, and customers
  • Manage and develop logistics staff

Required Competencies and Skills 

  • Excellent written and oral communication/phone skills.
  • Project management experience and/or customer relationship management experience preferred.
  • Goal-driven and highly motivated.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent negotiation skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of the transportation industry.
  • Good intuition to make crucial judgment calls

Primary Areas of Accountability:

Qualifications and Experience 

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations, Logistics, Business Administration, Transportation, Or Engineering
  • Must have a minimum of 6+ years of experience working in logistics, dispatch, warehouse, or transportation operations
  • Must be well-versed in supply management principles and practices
  • Firm grasp of supply chain, inventory, distribution, business, and management principles
  • Strong team player
  • Ability to manage, coach, and provide training for direct reports
  • Exceptional organizational and analytical skills
  • Working knowledge of logistics and inventory software
  • Must have hands-on experience in administering Fleet Monitoring Systems (GPS trackers)
  • Must be a member of CILT
