Job Purpose
The Senior Legal Officer will assist the Legal Manager & Company Secretary in providing company secretarial services and advice to the Board and senior management in accordance with the current law and regulation. Be responsible for providing legal advice and support to the organization on a wide range of legal matters, including contracts, compliance, intellectual property, and regulatory issues.

Summary of Key Duties:

  • Assisting the Legal Manager/Company Secretary in keeping management appraised
    of new legislation and regulations regarding the institution and
    ensuring all documents served on the organization are attended to.
  • Recommending and making appropriate changes to workflows aimed at ensuring collateral is verified and perfected pre-disbursement and kept safe at all times.
  • Provide legal advice and support to the organization and its employees
  • Draft and review contracts, agreements, and other legal documents
  • Assist in negotiating and resolving legal disputes
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments affecting the company
  • Coordinate with external legal counsel when necessary
  • Manage litigation and other legal proceedings
  • Assist in developing policies and procedures to minimize legal risk
  • Working with Human Resources Department to prepare and or review employment contracts and review the Memorandum of collective Agreements
  • Provide legal support in research on developments in law and maintenance of a legal Library for reference.

Primary Areas of Accountability:

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in Law
  • Must have a minimum of 3+ years of experience practicing law, preferably in a corporate, government institution or in-house setting
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities under tight deadlines
  • Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations
  • Experience managing litigation and other legal proceedings
  • Experience in handling litigation matters and commercial drafting in a Quasi-government, Commercial Bank/Micro-financial or
    a Reputable Law Firm will be plus.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Package (Word, Excel, Internet and Access.
  • Ability to analyze problems and strategize for better solutions.
  • Must have a Valid Practicing Certificate from the Law Association of Zambia.
