Job Purpose
The Legal Manager will safeguard the interest of the company and provide legal assistance to department head and leadership in developing the agreement communications and business policies Overseeing the legal aspects of business operations and transactions Managing relationships with external legal counsel and regulatory authorities Providing guidance on labor law intellectual property and contract disputes Developing and implementing legal strategies to protect the organizations interests Conducting legal research and staying updated on changes in laws and regulations.

Summary of Key Responsibilities;

  • Providing legal advice and guidance managing the organizations legal matters and ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations
  • Provide Counsel Assistance and Support in creation of structures and environment for ethical and legal compliances and support enforcement of global compliance policies that are applicable across multiple business units
  • Negotiating and drafting various legal agreements and contracts
  • Representing the organization in legal proceedings when necessary
  • Collaborating with other departments to ensure legal compliance in business activities
  • Providing training to employees on legal matters and compliance requirements
  • Advising senior management on legal implications and potential risks
  • Advising on general business law issues and managing the legal issues of all areas of the company including but not limited to corporate matters procurement safety security insurance and sustainability issues
  • Represent the Company at Corporate and Government events as required in liaison with the CEO
  • Execute procedures for protecting patents trademarks and industrial designs
  • Keeping up with current changes on all relevant areas of laws and contributing to the enhancement of the knowledge base of the organizations legal function
  • Provide legal assistance to Human resources team for employment matters and contract drafting for employment and other relating matters
  • Ensure compliance with the internal controls statutory regulations and other formalities
  • Draft legal documents such as contracts statements agreements
  • Proactively create and maintain awareness of business employees for compliance with relevant laws and regulations
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and account owners  departments to educate internal stakeholders on compliance legal and data protection requirements and to continuously promote a culture of compliance integrity and data protection internally

Primary Areas of Accountability:

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor of Laws Degree
  • Must have a minimum of 6 years working experience as Legal Manager or Assistant Head Legal 
  • Must have proven experience in regulatory compliance and provision of legal advisory services to management and the Board
  • Strong background in corporate law and the ability to handle complex legal matters with minimal supervision 
  • Exposure to commercial transactions Mergers and Acquisitions will be a plus
  • Strong legal experience in Corporate and Commercial Matters
  • Experience on managing external legal counsels is an added advantage 
  • Familiar with corporate governance and assurance structures and policies
  • Demonstrate success in managing and conducting a variety of litigation matters
  • Must be a member of LAZ with valid practicing certificate
